Laura, I'm getting a bad case of the nerves. Did you stop your antidepressant before surgery? I'm scared I'll go off the deep end if I have to stop mine. Even a few days. I don't want to go back into that black hole again. Can you take a pill when you are only on clear liquids after surgery? Luann

I'm not laura but I can tell you my experience. I took my effexor clear up till the day of surgery and restarted them when I was back home. I had no problems taking pills but I'm not sure if the same goes for everyone. Good luck to you! Dawn

i took mine up til the surgery and then right back on when i got home as well- if your pill is too large to swallow you may have to break it up or ask the doctor for a scrip for liquid -many of them come in liq form i think-

Margo, Thamks, I was suppose to Have Dr. Vigliano at Groveport until insurance caused me to go to Michigan. I feel better after the two posts told me that you can take your antidepressant right up till surgery. I take lexipro and I will have to break it up some. I just don't want to go crazy, or off the deep end, been there and done that! It wasn't pretty. Did you have mood swings or problems the first few weeks? Thanks, Luann

unfortunately, yes-there were mood swings but-gf you are having major surgery!!!!!!! and when you start losing weight your hormones ( where the weight is stored) will go slightly outta whack! now-i am NOT saying any of this to throw you off the deep end-i am being honest-and these thinsg may not happen to you!!! luann--deep breaths....put your faith in your surgeon and in your God if you have one- i think you do!!!! and you will be fine--your hubby needs to know that there will be swings in the moods and spirit and may need to learn when to stay away!!! mine joked that i should carry a sign like you use for dirty/clean for a dishwasher-smiley face on one side and bad face on another!!!!! picture a small paper plate with a popsicle stick glued on! wishing you only the best!!!! email me if you have more questions etc--i am getting offline now for a few hours but will be back!

I am a different Laura, but I can tell you I take Lexapro (it was a miracle for me). I took it the night before surgery and the night I came home from the hospital. I am still taking it but I have to cru**** for the first 6 weeks after surgery. Best wishes to you! Laura

For some reason my PCP and Dr Mikami agreed that I should be off of it prior to surgery. And YES Maam I did almost go off the deep end. But as soon as my tummy was able to tolerate my 14 daily pills plus the vitties he put me back on. And when I got so bad my Doc prescribed an antianxiety med to get me through until my effexor started working again. The first two weeks were miserable for me, I wont lie to you. But these folks here sure helped me along the way. Just dont be afraid to talk openly with your Dr about these fears you are having. Dont do what I did, PROMISE?????? If you need to talk I am here.. Hugs, Laura

laura-i am soooooooooooo glad that you answered honestly as well-it would be so easy to be all sunshiney and bright and not be honest when a preop asks about things like mood swings and bms etc--part of helping each other tho is being honest and telling them the truth- what maybe happened to you or me may be something totally diff than what they may experience-and if they can learn something from our experiences-well-that is the goal!!! i sure would hate it if every post from every post op was doom and gloom but i am glad to see that we are able to be honest here! and you are soooooooooooo right about these boards being like family -when we need to vent or scream or cheer!!!! i am here too-for anyone who needs to talk!(and that includes you!!!) hugs, margo
