A Support Group around my area??

Hi! I live on the Akron side of the Akron/Canton border. I wish there was a face-to-face weight-loss (Gastric Bypass) support group meeting OTHER THAN Overeaters Anonymous. OA has worked for me in the past, but it's not exactly what I need. I dunno, maybe it is... I work a strange schedule, so I'll never be able to go to the WLS / GB support group in the Akron area. Through ObesityHelp.com, I've found people around me who've had some type of WLS...it would be so nice if we could get together once a month or so just to talk and vent our frustrations and share happy stories. Hi Julie - There is a WLS support group that meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Perkins restaurant on Dressler road in North Canton at 7:00. I have gone twice and have enjoyed it very much. It is pretty informal, everyone is really nice and most people are post op. There are only a couple of us that are pre op (although I am scheduled for 7/28 so next week will be my last time to attend as a pre op - ). Please feel free to email me. Have a great day - Stacey

Julie Dr. Ganz will be having chapter lead classes at the conference in Cincinnati, if you can't find a support group that fits your needs and time..then why not start one of your own? OH will provide you with the training and materials you need to get started.. Brenda

I would love to go to the Cincinnati Event. The only way I'd be able to go is if I took half a day of vacation on Fri 8/19 and drove to Cinci to sleep there and go to the event on Sat 8/20. Hi Julie, I am going to have my WLS at Akron City Hospital. They have a support group that meets every 4th Wed of the month from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at Akron City Hospital Center of Excellence in Suite 175. You do not have to be a pt of Summa to attend and there is no charge. Next meeting is 7/27, 8/24, 9/28. Hope this helps. I have not been to one of these meeting yet but plan to attend on 7/27 - 8 days post op- hope I feel like it. Maybe I will see you there!
