Dr. C please help!
Hi, I post at the lap band forum and posted a post op question today. A lady named Tamara Shaw told me to put my post out to you to get you advice.
I am 9 days post op today on a full liquid diet and I am absolutely without a doubt in my mind hungry. My surgeon has me on cream soups, grits, smoothie, and cream of wheat. He said that jello, pudding, and cottage cheese are part of phase 3 and I can not have them for 4 weeks!!! I want to follow my Dr.'s rules b/c lord help me if something goes wrong, but he is 10 times stricter than any of the surgeons I have heard about thus far. I don't know what I can do to fill my tummy. Yesterday, I had: 1 cup of carnation instant breakfast, a 3 oz.yogurts(which I am not sure if I was suppose to or not), 3/4 of a can of split pea soup, another cup of carnation instant breakfast, a package of cream of wheat, plus all of the juices and waters I could squeeze in and I was still hungry. It seems that most of you start mushies by about 3 weeks out and I was told not to until 7 weeks out. I love my surgeon and like I said, I want to follow his rules, but he expects me to follow the same diet that he has his RNY people on which does not sound right b/c they do not have half of their stomachs and I am not even filled yet. I guess I am just whinning and being a baby, but that does not change the fact that I am still HUNGRY. Also he said NO PROTEIN DRINKS b/c it makes hydration harder.
Now my question to you is, is it right that I am on the same post op diet as RNY post ops? I have absolutely no fill in my band yet, and have no problems since day 3 getting any liquids or soups down. Any feed back will be wonderful, Thanks!
Joanna,
I don't know what to tell you...every surgeon has different rules. Your surgeon's diet regimen is much different than mine. Some people have no restriction whatsoever until fills are started. My slant on that is to get them filled properly ASAP. I never understood this "only one fill every 4 weeks" business. Once fills are started, why not get to the sweet spot as soon as possible. You might post a message on our board, as our dietitian has a band and might be able to help you. It's new you real you dot come.
Good luck,
