I have a few questions for you guys
Hi,
Well my first question is how long did you have to stay out of work? How long were you in hospital?
and finally are there any other new medicines that you have to take since you had the wls? sorry about all the questions but someone asked me those and from what i read, the first answer was 1 to 2 months.
the second was 2-3 days. and the last one i dont know.
Please every post op answer these questions.
thank you

Hi Rich..
Well I would think the first a question is very individualized. It depends on the type of surgeries to the health of the patient even before surgery, I do know that lap RNY surgery patients recover much quicker than those who had open RNY. ...of course that's without any type of complications.
I had Open RNY two years ago, I was in the hospital from Wed.-Sat.
I do not take any type of new meds..I am off insulin but actually even after reaching my goal weight and so much healthier I still take meds for my B/P and cholesterol..guess it;s in my genes..only thing I take new are supplements like vitamins, calcium and my sublingual B-12..
Alot of these questions can be answered at the conference in August by a variety of docs..come join us for a day in Cincinnati and get all your questions answered by the professionals!
thank you for answering.
i guess i should've said for you guys personally how long did u have to wait before returning to work? I know that everyone is different but i would like to know.I have an appt. in july for a consult so i can ask the dr. but i would just like an answer from you post ops

Rich,
I had lap RNY. I was in the hospital 2 days. I had my surgery on 5/12/05. I am just now getting ready to go back to work next week. So I have been out 6 weeks.
It just depends on your Dr and your company you work for. My company told me I could have up to 6 weeks. I think you need it after you go through waiting for the approval from the insurance company and preparing yourself mentally for the surgery.
Good Luck and Best Wishes on your journey.
Hugs,
Julie

I had lap-rny and was begging the Doc. to let me go back after three weeks. I was bored silly. I was in the hospital Thursday through Saturday noon but ended up back at midnight, I ate too fast or too much and threw up too soon. No further complications and home Tuesday morning. I took Protonix for a buffer for other meds but most are gone now. I do take B12 and prenatal vitamins but mostly that is it. Good luck with answers, Darla
Hi Rich,
I had my surgery at Barix in Groveport. I had open RNY I was in the hospital from Tues-Friday. I went back to work after 2 weeks. (I have a sit down job in front of a computer) I know if I would have had a physical job I would have been off for 4 weeks. The new meds I am on is Vitamins, and I take Prevacid for 3 months after surgery, and Actigul for 3 months after surgery. They are to help prevent gallstones, I got to keep my gallbladder, some surgeons remove them. I had my surgery on 04/26/05 I am already no longer taking anything for my diabities, no longer on my sleep apnea Cpap machine, no longer have to take cholesterol meds.
Please keep in mind that all surgeons are different. The best way to get the answers is to call the surgeons office and ask what is the norm for them. Best of Luck.
Hugs,
Lisa
Rich,
You sure are up late in the a.m. My surgeon told me that since I have a sit down job, I could go back in two weeks with lap or open. We'll see after I have my surgery if it's really true. I live in Collins about a half hour from you. If you need to gab just e-mail. Good luck. I can't wait until the convention in Cincy. Where do you plan on going for surgery? Good luck, Luann
