After approval, does switching to another Surgeon cause problems?

After approval: If the surgeon/place I was originally intending on going to is considered out-of-network how much of a problem does this present? Meaning is the approval some how tied to the original surgeon/place? I've only had my original consult at Barix but they did file the paper work that I sent them to help get me approved. I really liked Barix and their surgeons but it looks like they are out-of-network for my insurance. So my cost will most likely be a lot more than I was expecting. I still need to talk to Barix and my insurance to see what my cost would actually be. I'll be doing that tomorrow. In case I decide to look for a surgeon that is In-Network I figured I check here to see if it causes problems switching surgeons after approval. I really like what Dr. Curry's patients have to say about him and his thoughtful caring comments are always great. Dr. Curry is In-Network for me so I though about checking with his Center. His hospital is In-Network as well. Any comments are welcome and sorry for the long post. Tim

Tim, Thanks for the kudos! People switch surgeons due to the in/out of network thing all the time, it's usually fairly easy. If you want, email our insurance coordinator Tracy. She is top notch as many folks here on the board can attest and she'll help you any way she can I'm sure. Her address is [email protected] - or you can post a message on our site, it's new you real you dot com. Good luck, Dr. C The Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss Center Cincinnati, Ohio (513) 559-2545

I feel if you pick Dr.Curry you will be extremely happy. He is a real great guy and very down to earth. He makes you feel like you are his favorite patient no matter how big we are. Just a wonderful office. I checked out several doctors and I was led somehow in his direction. I was literally on may way to West Va. and made my husband stop the car. On that same day I was on the phone with Dr.C and the next day in his office. It was a true miracle and I thank God I was led in that direction. Before anyone makes their mind to have this done, please make the trip to Cincinnati,he is worth a million miles. Just talk to him and his staff and then make your mind up. Even though I did not go to Dr Curry, I think you will be making a good decision if you do go to him. My PCP referred me to OSU, but Dr Curry was not in my network, but if he had been, I would have gone to him. Best of Luck in your journey.... Julie

Tim, Get in touch with Tracy at Dr. C's office. She is great at the insurance part. And I can attest that you will be so happy with Dr. C and everyone in his office. I live in Indianapolis and would drive even further if need be to have Dr. C as my surgeon. If that tells you anything. Wishing you the best Vicki in Indy
