Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone has any advice. On Monday it will be 2 weeks since my surgery (lap RNY) I am really having a hard time with getting my protein shakes in. I find the only thing I tolerate is cream of chicken soup. I've used low carb carnation inst. breakfast, Isopure Alpine Punch, and I ordered Nectar Fuzzy Navel and don't like it at all. I'm not vomitting but am very nauseous. I have never been a picky eater but I always leaned more towards meat and salt vs. sweets. I would really appreciate any advice. Would also like to know when most people progress to pureed foods. Thanks! Jen

Maybe you can order a protein powder called Unjury. It comes in a non-flavor so you can sprinkle it on your foods or in your puddings or yogurts. I use that when I can't get a protein drink in. www.UNJURY.com is the website. Best of Luck, Julie

Hi Jen, I use the Unjury as well but I can only tolerate the chocolate, for some reason the unflavored has a funny smell to me. I am not a sweet eater either so I add a little baking coco powder to it, it tastes great that way. Hope this helps. Julie

Hi Julie! I'm getting to the point where everything smells or tastes funny to me. All I want in the world is some beef jerky Is that crazy? Thanks for the info! Jen

Jen, I am a little over 2 weeks out. I had an open Roux-en Y... I am choking the Nectar down in the a.m. for breakfast. It takes me about 2 hours to get it down but that is half my protein for the day. I am on soft foods but takes me so long to eat anything about 45 minutes into it I end up giving it to the dog. I really think it is just a matter of time before we will be able to get our protein in. I went through University Hospital and they were more concerned about getting the 64 oz. of water in than they were the protein. I am lacking in both. I am lucky to get in half the water if that. But I keep working at it and so far have not become dehydrated! I know I haven't helped but at least you shouldn't feel too alone! Sue

Hi Sue! God bless you for sticking with that Nectar. I ordered the lemon iced tea this time maybe that will be better! I appreciate what you said about getting the fluid in! I've been finding it really difficult to get more than 30 or 40 grams of protein in along with all tha****er. I'm glad to talk to someone who is at around the same point in this as I am!!!! Thanks so much! Jen

Hi Jen, I am almost 6 weeks out and I can definitly identify with your problem. I found that pureed beef vegetable soup really appealed to me and I stirred ricotta cheese into tomato soup. I USED to be a sweet/gooey...now I am definitly a savory/salty!! Tell your Dr. about the nausea. I was having alot of that 3-5 weeks out...my Dr. prescribed a medication that assisted in moving food through my system and a pill tbat dissolved on my tongue for when I am nauseas. I have not had to used the nausea pill since I went on Regalin...so I evidently had trouble moving things through. Try to get your protein with soups..I also liked the low carb instant cream of chicken. You almost have to keep trying things until you find somethingn you can tolerate. It can be very frustrating I know. I wondered if I would ever feel good again...but with every day I think I am feeling better. Liz Hillsboro
