Hello Dr C. My question: Is there a cutoff regarding BMI regarding Lapband surgery ? When a surgeon "would not" perform the precedure. I know I probaly would have to be reapproved with my insurance company. (They approved when my BMI was 40.) My BMI is down (currently) to 34.4 with "no" weight related illnesses...... I am still considering the band as a maintanance tool. Thanks Phyllis............

Phyllis, I would still do a band on you with a BMI of 34, although not a bypass as the risk would be too great. I seriously doubt your insurance would cover it but if you want to give it a try we will do everything we can for you. The band would not only be a maintenance tool but would easily enable you to get your BMI down in the 20's. Good luck, Dr. C The Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss Center Cincinnati, Ohio (513) 559-2545
