ATTENTION: DR. C. Original Post by Miss Losin' Lots at 11:16 AM PST on 06/07/2005 TX Dr. C, Do you have many patients who experience esophegeal spasms and if so what do you do about it? Also have you ever heard of the medication PROTONIX and if so would you consider this a good medication for this condition? Any other opinion on this matter is appreciated. I apparently have esophegeal spasms and it began after my last small fill of .2ccs. My surgeon too that out yesterday and we are waiting to see if they subside.....I was told of PROTONIX by another band patient who has a friend that does not have a band who experienced them and this medication worked well. What do you think? Thanks for your help Kay

Kay, I don't have any patients with esophageal spasm, although I could envision it happening rarely. I don't think Protonix would help one bit - that is just an acid reducer for your stomach. Usually we use calcium channel blockers (like Procardia) or benzodiazepines (like valium) to treat esophageal spasm, but to be honest always work real well.
