Hi Everyone! My surgery date is June 6 and I'm trying to prepare myself as best as I can. I would really appreciate any advice on how to deal with head hunger. This week I'm only drinking protein shakes because my surgeon says it decreases the size of the liver and makes the surgery easier. I find myself being very crabby and short tempered. I really need some help so my poor husband doesn't have to feel the brunt of my frustration! Thanks! Jen

jen, I don't know exactly what you can do for pre-op head hunger, but I can tell you this....post-op, you won't have much trouble with head hunger, or ANY kind of hunger. At least I haven't. It is VERY odd for me to not crave things ...oh I find myself thinking, "chips and salsa would be nice", but it is just a thought...it is NOT a nagging craving as I experienced on the "other side". I don't know why it works this way, I just know it does. I have heard others say the same thing. Good luck...June 6 will be here before you know it!!!!!. Don't kill yourself ahead of time.IF you can limit your head hunger to one or two things total, it will not make that big of a difference. In the OSU program we do not have to go on the shakes prior to surgery. good luck and hang in there!!! Liz Hillsboro

I know right now is really hard. Hang in there. After surgery you will not have to deal with it like this. Right now your stomach is still big, and is use to having food. After surgery it is kind of hard to explain but you really don't have the hunger going on. It like you body talks to you in a different way. It lets you know hey energy is getting low, how about some fuel. My biggest fear was that after surgery I would want to eat and be really hungry, the way you get when you diet. It is sooooo cool. Nope no hunger. Hang in there. You can do this! It will be hard for now, but just think it will pay off. Hugs, Lisa

Hi Lisa! Thanks again for the encouragement! You always know exactly what to say! I have been really stressing about being hungry after surgery! Food has always been my comfort as well as my enemy! I can't wait til I get to the point where you are of using food as fuel! That is very cool! Take care! Jen

HI!! I AM 9 MONTHS OUT AND WANTED TO LET YA KNOW HOW THINGS ARE DOWN THE ROAD A LITTLE FARTHER DOWN THE ROAD THE THE OTHER POSTERS ARE....YES THEY ARE CORRECT THAT YOU DO NOT GET HUNGRY FOR A WHILE....BUT THE HUNGER DOES RETURN AND SOMETIMES IT CAN BE FURICIOUS!! BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT N MATTER HOW HUNGRY YOU FEEL AFTER YOU EAT AND IT STILL ONLY TAKES A SMALL AMT..SOMETIMES I STILL CAN'T GET A WHOLE CUP OF FOOD IN AT A MEAL AND SOME DAYS IT IS EASY..YOU GET FULL FAST AND NEVER EAT ANYWHE RE CLOSE TO WHAT YOU DID...ALSO YOU STILL WILL GET CRAVINGS AND YES YOU WILL PROBALLY GIVE IN TO THEM FROM TIME TO TIME..WE ARE ONLY HUMAN...BUT I FIND THAT ALOT OF TIMES WHAT EVER YOU ARE CRAVING NEVER TASTES AS GOOD AS YOU THINK IT IS GOING TO..BUT IF IT DOES...YOU STILL WILL ONLY END UP WITH A VERY SMALL AMT...SO DON'T SEAT IT...IT IS A WHOLE NEW WAY OF LIFE..DON'T KICK YOURSELF IF YOU DO GIVE IN....JUST KNOW THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME YOU WILL DO THE RIGHT THING...BECAUSE THE SMALLLER YOU GET...THE MORE YOU KNOW THAT YOU NEVER WANT TO BE THE SIZE YOU WERE BEFORE AND IT MAKES IT MUCH EASIER TO DO THE RIGHT THING!! YOU WILL DO GREAT...YOU ARE DOING THE HARDEST PART NOW CAUSE YOU STILL HAVE THAT GIANT BELLY WE ALL HAD!!!! GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS!!! BARB (271-160-145)
