had my surgeryo 5/23/ 05, im home

hi everyone, i had my surgery on monday the 23 and came home on wed. the 25th, i have lost 12 lbs sice monday i cant belive it. im still sore where the drain tube was that i had taken out friday, but feel great. i do have 1 concern, i love un-sweetend iced tea with lemon and splenda in it, but i cant find out if it is caffine free. and can some one tell me why we cant have caffine? or sip through a straw? take care everyone, karen

Congratulations on your surgery and quick hospital trip. Isn't life great? To attempt to answer your question, caffeine is an irritant to the stomach and it also can be a diuretic so not having caffeine is for both reasons, because you need fluids and don't want to take a diuretic and with a new pouch, you don't want to irritate it. You can get decaf tea bags at any grocery and or instant decaf tea, so there is no reason why you can't still have your tea, just without caffeine. Chris

HI, I ditto her response to caffine and wanted to add through my classes with group I was told that the straw is not good due to the sucking of air through straw causes gas and after surgery gas is painful. also good luck and congrats on your recent surgery hope you are well in body and spirits.

I am the same way/ I always take 2 showers a day. You wont care , you will be out of it the first dayand you wont care. Tell the nurse to give you a good sponge bath the day after. good luck and keep us informed. Cindy P.S. I drink 2 cups of coffee every day but not for a month or so.
