I was wondering if any of you have any regrets or where there things you where not expecting. I just stumbled on the Barix Clinics web site today at noon, and have been reading ever since. I weigh about 295-300 at 6ft tall. I'm not huge, 42 in waist. Just tired of the fat jokes and worried about my health. Any input would be great. Thanks Rob

Hi Rob, My only regret is taking as long as I did to make the decision to have surgery. However, it was good for me to wait until I was mentally and physically ready or I would not have been able to endure my unexpected post op complications. Dispite the complications Rob, I would do it all over again. I wish you the best .in your journey. Georgeann

Hi Rob, You are doing the right thing to research and get all the knowledge you can about the surgery and your choices. Be sure that you are prepared for all of the questions before you have a meeting at Barix. I agree with Sister Georgie, my only negative is I wish I had done this sooner in my life. I would do just about anything to have this surgery again. It changed my life and opened so many doors for me. Good luck on your journey.

i'm with sister georgie- my only regret is having waited so long to pursue this surgery...i learned quite a bit by being forced by ins comp to wait - i had issues with them and many hoops to jump --but it was worth it! this surgery is something that one must be prepared for mentally if not more than physically- they do not operate on your head and your emotions! i was very blessed not to have had complications... i had my surgery at barix in columbus 3/26/04 dr stelmack-he rocks!!!!!!!!! welcome a-board!

Rob, No regrets here. You have come to the right place. You can learn alot from this site just by listening to other peoples experiences as well as the wealth of information. As Dr. Curry said, start by checking with your insurance to see if you are covered. ( He is right, it is determined by your employer, thats what I meant lol.) Welcome to AMOS and jump in just like you did. Someone is always here. Richard

My regret is the same. I wish I was 26 andstead of 56. I feel 26 for the first time. I was thin until had babies and then I got heavy. I weighed 138 when I got pregnant and after 3 kids I gained 130 lbs. I am now down to 168 and I feel normal again. I still look in the mirror and see fat so I definatly have mental issues about this lol.I feel like I wasted 34 years of my life and now I am living again, and boy is it so much fun. Thanks Dr.Curry for helping me have my life back, Cindy

Same regret here.... wish I hadn't waited so long! It's great you're doing your homework on the subject. When it comes time to attend a seminar or make an appointment with a surgeon, be sure to check out at least three or four before you make your decision. Dr. Curry, in Cincinnati came highly recommended & I chose him after interviewing 4 other docs. I even went to a presentation & spoke personally with Dr. Wittgrove in California (Carnie Wilson's surgeon), & chose Dr. Curry over him. Don't let distance from your surgeon deter you from getting the best one for you. Good luck Rob & don't be a stranger... Laughs & hugs, NancyT

I am only 2 1/2 weeks out. I can tell from one newbie to another.. I wish I had not waited as well. I am doing great so far. No problems. I just feel better and more energy. It is just amazing how the weight falls off right now. I struggled for 6 months to lose 25lbs. I have lost over 30 since the surgery. I am happy I had the surgery and I know that my life is only going to be happier and healthier. Good Luck and Best Wishes! Julie
