help me out with a little poll ..thanks
deciding factor was frustration and the recommendations of friends.
I researched, followed rules, met with several surgeons (9 or 10 in 5 yrs) and was almost in a hopeless situation. All the surgeons in my area (toledo) stopped their bariatric practice or MOVED away. The last Dr in my area, stopped taking my insurance the WEEK I got my approval! Now that's frustrating! Then my insurance (ohio medicaid) had already been holding my approval for months, (only have 1 yr from approval date to get it done) and many of the surgeons were booked solid for many, many months. So even though I did NOT want to have to travel, I called Dr. Curry's office and made an appt. I liked him and his office staff immediately.. good people. Knowledgeable, curteous and caring.
My first pick turned out to not be covered under my insurance, which, was probably best as I've heard some concerns about the center to which he was attached.
At any rate, my PCP highly recommended Dr. J. Wesley Alexander from UC. He operates at Christ Hospital, and both he & the hospital are covered under my insurance.
My PCP also stated that he has approx. 5 or 6 patients who have all used Dr. A., and all are doing wonderful.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. A., as I've heard nothing but praise about him and his dedication to both the OPEN RNY surgery and his patients. He comes highly recommended and has extremely good credentials.... both, of which, I am very interested in!!!
Thanks,
Karen

you guys are great with your responses..thanks for sharing your experiences.
Dr. Curry seems to be very popular amoung the Ohio folks..though my report will not necessarily use surgeons names, it's good to know who is popular out there. Doc I hope you are going to be at the Ohio Conference so others can see who these folks are talking about!!
We have some of his patients in our support group "the ButterflyNetwork"
he is very well liked..
When I first started this venture I spoke to several friends that have had WLS already, They also happened to have different doctors. I didnt use one because he only does the open surgery, I didnt pick the other because right up front they told me he has had 6 deaths. That seemed a little high and made me nervous that they put a focus on the deaths and not success of the doctor. So I have chosen Dr. Curry, his staff is great and I felt really comfortable with him. I have stated this before several times, that an office staff is only as good as the doctor they work for. If they are going to be good, knowledgeable and easy to get along with you can almost bet the doctor will also. I think I am going to be very happy with my choice. I have only had one visit there so far but look forward to getting my 3month insurance period complete and get the ball towards the OR moving. Pam
