How long off work?

I just received the OK from the insurance company for the surgery. I'm going to OSU and I'm supposedly going to have the lap surgery. How long approximately will I be off of work? Thanks for the help.

Amy, I had lap surgery with Dr. Melvin a year ago. I was out of the hospital in three days and back to lite duty work in 10 days. Just remember to walk, walk, walk and do what your Dr. Says and you will do fine. Richard

Amy, I just went to see the surgeon last week. I will be in the hospital 3 days and off work for 6 weeks. My surgery is Thursday, May 12th. Good Luck and Best Wishes Julie

Im not planning on having the Lap band but wow you are in the hospital for a long time. I met with Dr. Curry today and he said that his lap band patients are usually done on an outpatient basis so your in the hospital anywhere from 4 - 24 hrs..depending on how you do..Good luck....Pam

I had Lap RNY on 4/11/05 and was back to work in 3 weeks. It depends on how well you do. Everyone is different. I thought prior to surgery "oh I'll be back to work in a week" There were a couple complications and the surgery takes more out of you than what you expect. Again everyone is different. If you need a full 6weeks don't stress it, take what you need! Lisa

I was out for three weeks and was begging Dr. Muscarella to let me go back to work since I was bored out of my mind. I had a 10# lifting restriction for another month but with the work I do who cares( I work with the mentally disabled)? Good luck and God Bless, Darla

I was in the hospital 2 1/2 days, then returned to my weekend job nine days after surgery and my weekday job 11 days after. I have a 15# weight restriction until my 6 week checkup on Friday. Hope everything goes well. Becky 254/216/154

Hi Amy, I just had surgery last Thursday at OSU...lap. I would have gone home on Sat., but there was a problem with my blood sugar levels so I stayed until Sunday. I am a teacher and will not be going back to school before the end of the year...but we get out May 27 so we have an early end of year. Truthfully, you will need down time, if for no other reason to get your eating plan well in your mind. Your best bet is to ask your surgeon how long you "may" be off... and that can change based on your personal rate of recovery. Liz Hillsboro
