Hello, I just recently found out that my company was switching insurance due to Anthem not covering a large part of Dayton anymore. My bad news is that they have decided to go with UHC of Ohio with a big ole' exclusion that mentions morbid obesity. The good news is that my DH finally got insurance info from his job with does not appear to have a written exclusion. BUT the company is Trustmark. I am not real familar with them. There is only one post in the insurance providers in OHIO from this company. However, when I search in Indiana and Illinois there are alot of them, all of the postings are positive. But I am not sure if that differs from state to state. The downside is that his insurance is about 40 bucks more a month and the prrescription coverage well....sucks! OK (I always have to worry about something!) If I get his insurace in August and immediatly try to get DS covered is there a bigger chance of being denied? Anyone familar with this company (Trustmark) I would Love to hear from you! Kym

Kym, You can email our insurance coordinator Tracy ([email protected]) and she might be able to tell you. We don't see it a lot in southern Ohio. You'll probably have better luck with RNY than DS in general. Dr. C

Dear Dr C, Is the Dumping syndrome a planned result of the WLS to keep us on track about not eating sweets and foods with a high sugar content. I was unsure if it a side effect of the procedure or a fail safe method to keep us from going astray with our eating. I hope I can find out soon enough what foods make me dump and avoid them at all costs Thank you Dr C For your information Laura Surgury 5//6/05 at 10:00 am

Dumping is not really a "planned" side effect, it is just something that happens in some patients after things get hooked up. Not everybody gets dumping, but those who do it certainly helps them avoid sweets. Good luck with your surgery! Dr. C The Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss Center Cincinnati, Ohio (513) 559-2545

Kym, Read your policy very carefully! I have UHC here in Dayton too and Mine did have a WLS surgery exclusion, EXCEPT in cases of Morbid Obesity. I had a very easy time getting approved by UHC, though I know that other people in different states weren't so lucky...Double check your policy and give it a go before you rule it out. I'm 5 weeks out and UHC has been great so far. They've taken care of most everything. Sheila

HI Sheila, I did read the plan with a fine tooth comb. LOL and there is a mention of morbid obesity in the exclusion, I wish there wasn't because it is much cheaper than DH's and the presription plan is much much better. But I guess a few more bucks a month for a chance at WLS is better than having to wipe out our 401K and going to Brazil... Thanks for you imput, Kym
