Fat necrosis
Hi Rebecca,
On the last night of my second trip at the hospital, I was laying in the bed reading and I kept getting whifs of something that smelled like vomit. I sat up and pulled the covers back and the entire front of my shirt was soaked. When I looked there was this disgusting fluid that was pouring out of the middle incision. I hit the nurses button and stood up to get some tissues and this stuff was just dripping all over the floor. I thought for sure that I busted something and this was vomit that was coming out of my incision. By the time the nurse came in I was almost in tears. When the nurse (who normally did not work on this floor) seen this stuff draining she said "Oh my God" and ran to get some pads. She paged the on-call surgeon and he came & pushed some more stuff out of it and said that there may have been some infection there. Then he told me that they could not use the steri-strips to hold it together, it would have to heal from the inside out. Which means that I have to pack this nasty hole twice a day until it closes up. Dr. K was the one who told me the next morning that it was the fat necrosis stuff. But it is gross. After a couple of days it really starts to slow down and now when I change the bandage there is barely any sign of drainage.
Well that's my fatty tissue story and now I'm down 30!!! Woo Hoo. Thank you for the response to my last post by the way and I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well. 16 pounds after nine days is awesome.
