Here's some info on Carbs BO!
Hey, in response to your post:
I have been on a low carb diet and I am adjusting well enough but, I was curious as a discussion about absorption last evening got me thinking. If we RNY'ers malabsorb calories do we likewise malabsorb carbs too? If that be the case has anyone done any reading on what the RDA of carbs for post-ops is? I mean seriously this is not an attempt to eat cheesecake [grin or is it?] but, an honest want to know!
I emailed my nutritionist with your question, here's her response:
Carbs are not malabsorbed with RNY. We usually recommend no less than 40% of calories from carbs. For 1000 calories that would be 400 calories as carbs. If you divide that by 4, it would mean 100 gm of carbs. ( For a 1200 calorie diet that would be 120 gms of carbs)
Hope this answers your question!! Wouldn't you know we absorb carbs just fine...figures...
We need the vitamins, and we don't want all those carbies! SO, I guess you are gonna have to ration out that cheesecake sweetie! Besides, you are sweet enough as it is...right Cheryl?

Hi Val,
Suzie here. Thanks for this info! I can deal with knowing that I can have 100 gm or less of carbs/day. This really helps me out as I have been stressin' about the carb intake lately.
You know that two years out and I'm up a couple of lbs" issue? Need to get back on the stick. The low carb one that is.......LOL.
Suz
Hey,
Valerie you know how to get to mans heart tell him he can have 100grams of carbs a day when I have been suffering at 20 or less!!!! How do I love thee let me count the ways:
Twinkies
Cheesecake
Brownies...
Ok...I am starting to get light-headed that is called "day-dumping".
Hugs,
Did you get pinched today?
Bo
It's all because I love ya babe!
All that stuff would be "COMA" for me!!
I would be curled up in a fetal position, drooling and etc....
So, enjoy it for me!
Nope, I told Paula that I wanted YOU to pinch me yourself!!
You know, if you carb deplete too much, you metabolism will shut down and cause you to stop losing. So, carbs are NOT always the enemy. You just gotta choose the right carbies to be your friends!
Hugs,
Val
