I'm sorry, are you sure that is the reason you were turned down by OSU? They are a public hospital and basically HAVE to accept Medicaid and Medicare. Now I was told by OSU that they wouldn't even look at my application until I got prior authorization from Medicaid. So my PCP wrote the letter and I got the prior authorization and proceeded with the OSU process. That was 2 years ago, but I have not seen anything that indicates they have changed. I believe Sister Georgie, who just had surgery in January at OSU, was on Medicaid or Medicare. So I would make a phone call and get more clarification. Sarah

With Medicaid I did not have to pay for anything. All my pre-op was covered...although I did have my psych eval done at the counseling center at my univeristy, so it was free, not sure otherwise what Medicaid would have covered. I got my prior auth in August, did some initial testing for OSU in September and October. The committee approved me in mid November. I started my 4 week nutrition classes in December. Consult with surgeon was January 23rd and my surgery was originally scheduled for February 10th...but due to an infection it was postponed until April 7th.
