Obstruction Question
Hello,
I am 11 months postop and I have intermittenly been experience lower abdominal pain and it seem like it is coming from my bowles. It seems to be getting worse. I was finally able to use the bathroom today from taking a suppository and I feel a little better, but yet still sore. My new pouch seems to ache alot. I was wondering how you would know if I have a bowel obstruction or what is going on with me. On the lighter side of my issue I am down form a size 22 jeans to a size 6... YIPPIE!!!!!
Please respond!
Thanks

First Great job on the weight loss!
Second, if you are having pain you really need to check with your doctor. A bowel obstruction is a dangerous thing, and VERY painful. Have you been checked for a hernia? There could be a number of reasons you are having abdominal pain.
I tell people that pain is an indicator. It is your body saying "HEY YOU!! Gotta get this looked at!" If it turns our to be nothing serious, then that's great. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
I hope you are feeling better, but my advice is to seek medical advice!
Take care!
Valerie
Call the Dr. right away.... I dont want to scared you BUT My girlfriend had a couple of severe pains in her tummy and it got worse and she passed out from the pain and her mom was there and called the ambulance and they took her to the hospital where they did a cat scan and operated right away it was "an obstructive bowel" which can be fatal if not treated immediately.. Please be careful and LISTEN to your body...... She is a lucky girl today this just happened 2 weeks ago and she was 13 months post-op..
Best of luck to you Janice
Thank you for your response. I am going in for an upper GI tomorrow. I have been able to go to the bathroom and all now . I have been under alot of stress with my dad going through Chemo. My pouch seems to get really hard when I am upset. I was thinking I have the flu or something but when I do eat, it bothers my pouch and then it grumbles all the way down. I have been drinking plenty of water and all and like I mentioned, I am able to go to the bathroom. I hope it is not an obstruction or an Ulcer. I suppoose I will find out in the AM. Are there signs to watch out for either of the two? I look forward to your response.
Thanks

THIS IS A VERY EMOTIONAL TIME FOR EVERYONE. I DONT KNOW IF WE WILL EVER FEEL THE OLD WAY AGAIN.THANK GOD. IT IS A WHOLE NEW LIFE FOR US ALL. I ALWAYS SAY,AND I AM SURE ITS OLD, ONE DAY AT A TIME. THE WEIGHT LOSS MAKES UP FOR IT ALL.THE HEALTH ISSUES ARE THE WORST SO IT MAKES IT ALL WORTH IT. LETS NOT FORGET WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE FAT. IT HURTS. WE NEVER FELT GOOD,COULDNT WALK VERY FAR,NEVER WANTED TO CLIMB STEPS. I WAS REALLY HAPPIER BEING IN BED TAKING MY INSULIN.,NO MORE. i AM HEALTHY AGAIN. STRESS WITH YOUR DAD CAN BE TERRIBLE AND I AM SO SORRY. AS FAR AS GRUMBLING,MY POUCH TALKS TO ME. I MADE MY HUSBAND LISTEN LAST NIGHT AND HE SAID IT WAS LIKE A EARTHQUAKE. YOU
WILL BE FINE BUT GET CHECKED. GOOD LUCK, CINDY
Thank you so much Cindy! I did have an upper GI done today, Yuck! I think alot of this is my nerves or when I get upset at home with the family or think of my dad. I went to my room this evening and just shut the door and slept and I did feel much better! I was just worried about the scary things you hear about when you get pains in your pouch or lower intestines. I do not have the issue of going to the bathroom most of the time. So I will wait until my results come back. I did have a panic attack when I was back home in Oklahoma seeing my dad,and wound up in the ER. Now that was a scary thing!!! Thank you so much for your encouragement and I will keep the thought that I am now 135 pounds and used to weigh 259 11 months ago. You are right, there are things that we run into and yes it is a emotional rollercoaster at times but I am thankful I can at least walk across the room with out loosing my breath. I have been given a chance for a new and improved life!!!!!
Thank you!
