update on amos friend in ICU
hi all, i finally was able to talk to MICHELLE MCKINSTRY's mom. that is who is in the ICU. here is what happen and is going on with her. as i told you michelle had her surgery dec 7th, 04. she kept tell me that she was vomiiting what ever she put in her mouth. and she kept telling the doc and he said he just kept telling her it would get better. well all that vomiting caused her to aspirate her vomit into her lungs!!! which caused pneumonia. when she was admitted they did xrays and etc and found that she had a kinked small bowel. they rushed her to surgery and corrected the problem. that was a little longer then a week ago. she is now on the ventilator and then her lungs collapsed!!!! now she is in what is called ARDS. more specific adult respiratory distress syndrome. this could be fatal, but i have taken care of many people who has had this and they have lived and went on to thrive. but michelle is running fevers of 104 degrees. they think its her gall bladder. why didn't they take her gall bladder out during her bypass surgery i don't know why. the doctor say she is to critical to take her back to surgery to remove it. they are treating her with big time antibiotics of course. one doctor is hopefull and then the other isn't. i heard the surgeon sat by her bed all day and night after he took her back to surgery. what a wonderfull man. he has an excellent bedside manner!!!! the doctors want to transfer her to pittsburg to a bigger hospital but she is to unstable. her oxygen levels drop everytime she is moved. (this is not good) also they will be putting a tracheostomy either this weekend or monday or tuesday at the latest. they want to wait and she how she does over the next couple days.
do anyone of you guys ever have something called "survival guilt". well i do because i had no problems whats so ever and have only vomitted three times since may4th when i had my surgery.
well post updates as things imrpove or GOD forbid she worsens. thanks for all your concerns and prayers. michelle's mom thanks you all too. she is so happy that there is the web site for people who have the same surgery to talk to and get support. god bless and talk to you later.
jennifer, her angel.
