Pain when first eating - advice needed

Hi, all, Starting two days ago, I got a sharp pain right between and just below my breasts when I took the first bites of food. Happened again yesterday once and today again, but this time it didn't go away after the first few bites, so I stopped eating. Food type doesn't seem to matter, the first time it was runny cream-of-wheat, the second it was a soft-scrambled eggbeaters egg, this time was purreed spaghetti and meat sauce, all less than 1/2 cup, all after 30 minutes of no drinking, none with sugar (sugar freee homemade spaghetti sauce) all by the rules - I was released to step 3 diet as of two days ago. It doesn't happen every time, and I have no problems with liquids. I'm 15 days post-op - going to try eating some yogurt here in a couple of hours. In the mean time, of course, I'm worried about strictures, leaks and everything else under the sun, but this doesn't fit what Dr. Mikami told me to call him for. Any advice from other post ops? Anyone else go through this? Thanks for any help!

Hi, I wish I could help. I'm only 11 days post op and still on Stage II. Dr. Mikami did my surgery too. I actually work at the hospital with him too, he's a great guy. The only thing I can think of is try eating very small and slow....I mean intentionally eat half a teaspoon at a time and swallow slowly and see what happens. Sorry I can't be of more help, as I haven't experienced that symptom.

I was really impressed with Dr. Mikami, too - thought I was very lucky to have him as a surgeon. Congratulations on your surgery, it's good to hear from another patient of Dr. M's. Had two more meals today with little consequence, yogurt with protein powder so I'd make the 50g went down easily, and some soup with soft veg and beans caused same pain, but much less intense. I've also had a lot of noise (in the belly and on the way out ) so I'm going to assume it's gas and stay close to really soft food all weekend until I can call the dietician on Monday. Still interested if anyone else has had like pains...makes me feel better every time I read someone else saying "oh, yeah, I had that too, it goes away".
