5 year weight history
Hey everyone... I'm getting a little freaked out.
I was just thinking today, that about 5 years ago, I had starved myself down to 180. I mean, I wouldn't eat for days at a time, literally starved myself. I slowly started gaining the weight back over the period of about a year. Then I got pregnant. We all know how that goes... Now I'm a cow..lol. Anyway, will this affect the insurance companies decision with my WLS, since I wasn't considered Morbidly obese then? God... I hope not. I've been working so hard for this. Anyone have any info that might help? Angela

Angela,
It wasn't a negative in my case.... it showed the insurance company my struggles over time.... which at the time was what they were looking for.... I know the process is evolving... but I would hope the rationale hasn't changed that much.. I had to document through pictures and diet histories...what my weight looked like.
Good luck and hang in there!

i don't want to rain on you- but in my case- it was a prob--according to the ins company i was not "fat enuff long enuff" ( not their words!)--however, in your case, if you can show them that the way you lost that weight was not healthy- starving is not healthy! it makes the bod atatck the muscles and we all know that the heart is a muscle).
sit down with a piece of paper and write 1999- weighed ____
2000-weighed ____
you get the drift----then see where you sit--
also- what co morbs do you have? go**** almost sounds like we WANT to have problems--no! i know better!
angela- the ins companies are the worst part of the surgery journey i think--don't get too down --keep thatgoal for a healthy life in your sites!!!!
The thing is, I can prove that I was big all of my life before then, so maybe that will make a difference. It wasn't like I was bragging to the Dr's about the way I was losing the weight..lol. I actually didn't have a regular family Dr., until 2000. I figure that I'm going to get my other records from the other Dr. that I seen on and off to prove my weight, before the drastic loss. I hope this works!!
Hi Angela,
I noticed that you have Aetna for insurance & mine is Med Mutual so they may look at this differently...but as for mine, I have been fighting them for 7 months now for that specific reason. In the 5 years, I fell below the mark twice. I thought that this would be clear indication that I have followed the other rule about exhausting all other means to lose weight, yet they still have held this against me.
I hope & pray that this works out differently for you, I dread for anyone to have to fight the insurance company, it's such a heart renching time....
Good Luck to You!
Jennifer

I hope this doesn't affect me either. I truly don't want to be fighting with the insurance company. I was looking at my medical records. They look to be helpful to my "untrained insured eye"
Almost every time I was at the dr. , we were talking about my weight and everything that I was doing to try to lose it. She also talks alot about my continued excercise. I only hope that God will send this into the hands of someone at the insurance company that will have compassion and care.
