WLS/OA ???
I was just wondering if anyone works an Overeaters Anonymous program and are post-wls? I've never been a member of OA, but have been thinking that it might help give me extra support while I'm trying to re-create my life. Although the eating protocols for wls and OA are different, there's still a lot of common issues. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Thanks!
Hi Diana!
I have never been to OA, nor do I know anyone, but I wanted to drop my 2 cents if you don't mind.
My feeling is that any postive support you can get is a good thing. I tell people who are facing wls and the issues around it to surround yourself with positive supportive people. If you can find that at an OA meeting, then you should do just that!
You will be recreating your life. It won't be the easiest thing, but it will be worth every bit of it! Having that person or group that can help support you is priceless.
Good luck with your journey. Keep coming here too, this is an AWESOME place for support. There are support groups just about everywhere. We have one at OSU, I know they have one in Cincinnati, right Sandy? And I know they are up north too!

Thanks for your 2 cents! You know I always appreciate your thoughts! I know for sure I won't drop this board or the OSU support group -- I think they're wonderful!!! Just thinking of OA as a supplement. Really hadn't considered it until I started reading this book that was mentioned during the last OSU group meeting. "Passing for Thin" -- have you read this? I'm not very far into it, but I really like it so far.
I'm Pre-WLS and I've been to OA before. I think the effectiveness depends on the dynamics of group you get involved in. Some that I've gone to have been very supportive and gave encouragement. At others, it was so depressing and hopeless that I couldn't WAIT to leave. It couldn't hurt to check it out and see how it feels for you.
Good luck.
