I know this is a dumb question but...

Where does the weight go when you lose weight? I mean it can't be all going through the bladder and bowels. And it sure isn't exercise. Trust me. Can't find the answer here or on the net. Google was no help either. When someone says "I've lost 150#" where did it go?
Thanks

Dear Lady,
Thanks for your reply!
Now you've given me another dilemma! LOL! I assume you mean it is changed into energy and expended through exertion but in the last seven weeks (weak, lethargic, no walking or other exercise) I have definately NOT been exerting enough to burn 66#. Any other ideas?
Hi Richard,
I "think" I can explain, I'll give it a try! To maintain your old pre-surgery weight your body needed a certain number of calories a day -- to maintain, not to gain or to lose. This number of calories can be determined with a "medgem" evaluation. I'm not sure what your BMI is, but the higher your BMI the higher this number of calories will be. Once you're post-op, the number of calories you take in is greatly reduced. If your body needs 2,500 calories to maintain it's current weight, for example, and you're currently only taking in 800 calories, just to live (without any extra exertion on your part), your body begins burning fat to make up the difference between the 2,500 calories and the 800. This is where the pounds go -- as your fat is burned for energy your pounds are shed.
If you go out to fitday.com and enter your current weight and height and then enter the food you eat today, in the "report" section of fitday, it will also show you how you're burning your calories. It's kind of cool --- I was surprised how many calories are burnt off just by living, without any extra excercise. It will also show you how much you burn off doing certain types of exercise.
Hope this helps!
