Ensuring private room @ OSU
Anyone have knowledge of how I can be certain to get a private room at OSU? My surgery is Sept. 24 and I want my mom to stay with me for support. She lives 1 1/2 hours away and I really want her in the room with me. I would like to avoid her having a major hissy fit in the hospital. She's under 5 foot tall but can hissy fit with the best of 'em!
I know my insurance covers a private room, but how to guarantee one?
Thanks for any input!

I have a surgery date of Oct. 8 and had the same question. I called my hospital and there policy is you cannot reserve a private room, but on your surgery date when you go in you can request one and if they have one it will be provided for you, so my suggestion is to call OSU and ask them what their policy is, its probably different for every facility. Good Luck to you on your surgery day!!! Shellee.
Hi guys!
Being that I work there, and had surgery there, you need to request your private room on the day of your admission. When you go into the admissions office and they are getting you registered, request a private room...HOWEVER...I will do you one better. There are two "Bariatric Suites" on the 10th floor. They are on a first come first serve basis, but ask for that room when you go in. Tell them if that is not available, you want a private room and that your insurance covers it.
Just a word of caution. There is always a possibility that a private room may not be readily available. That doesn't mean you can't have one, you just might have to wait. Tell your mom not to have too big a hissy! But, if that happens just be sure to let your staff know that you requested a private room and would appreciate them moving you to one asap. You know, you catch more flies with honey...
GOOD LUCK TO THE BOTH OF YOU!!!!!! I am excited for your upcoming new life!
