Huge decision, your opinions please.
Hi everyone, I could use a few opinions on this. I talked to Dr. Curry's staff today and they are so wonderful. I also talked to my insurance company. Everything would be covered if I go down there, but the problem is that Cincinnati is a 2 hr drive from here. I have no family except my husband and children here in Ohio. Everyone else is in Seattle. Linda at Dr. Curry's office said I could possibly get a surgery date in October and definitely before the end of the year. I am faced with sticking with Dr. Price and possibly losing the chance to have my surgery at all or going 2 hours away. Now for some this wouldn't be a big deal, but if I do go ahead and do the surgery with Dr. Curry, then I will be forced to go through the surgery part all by myself. I feel like I am stuck and I really hate the idea of going through with this alone. My husband is my rock and I really need him, but I can't pull the kids out of school. At the same time, I have fought long and hard to get my approval and it would be devastating to go through all of this and then not have my surgery. What would you do? I need to make a decision one wat or another very soon.
Thanks for sharing you thoughts on this,
~~Jaimee

Sweet Jaimee, I am going down to Cincy and it's a 3/4 hour drive for me to the hospital. I will have to have friends and family watch my 12 yr old during the time I will be down there also, he will be shuffled around a bit, but he cannot afford to miss that much school.
I will have family there on surgery day, but no one (maybe, depends on when I get a date) to stay with me until my first post-op visit. Someone will of course come retrieve me when I am ok'd to come home!
I'm counting on my friends from Sandy's group to help me stay sane and keep me company from time to time! 1 floor above the surgery floor for bariatric's (dr. curry's floor)
, is hotel rooms which you and 1 family member can stay at after surgery for a very low cost and up to a week. Jaimee if I was you I would NOT rule Dr. Curry out!
BTW, through my brief time speaking with Dr. Curry's office staff, they are all super people!
If'n I can make this large of a decision.. and make plans for life.. you can too! Remember I'm a single parent also so these decisions have been really hard for me, but still I know deep down inside it is the RIGHT decision also.
p/s yes I know I owe you an email still too.. will answer on Sat. as I go for my consult IN CINCY tommorrow. I gotta leave here like at 7:30 am to meet with the dietician (Erin another sweetie at the office) before my consult.

Hi Jaimee,
Dr Curry did my surgery almost a month ago, and everything went beautifully. I'm not much help on being "there" for you, as I live 3 hours away myself, but I CAN tell you that the hospital and staff were wonderful. My mother was able to be with me, but had I been by myself, I don't think I would have wanted for anything.
Not much help, I know, but at least you know you'll be well taken care of should you decide to use Deaconess.
