I just don't understand
I just ended my six month doctor supervised diet for my insurance. At first, I lost 18 pounds but In the last month, I started to gain. Atleast five pounds. My pcp told me that my insurance will not pay for the procedure if they think that I can't lose weight. I did lose weight but started to gain it back. Wouldn't that show my insurance company that I am having a difficult time. Also, my pcp wants me to ake a med call Adiphex-P for two weeks. He said I must exercise and get serious about this or I will not get approved. This med has alot of side effects.
Please if any has had this problem please let me know. Margaret
wow i have somthing to say about this.I just went through this My ins wanted a year of suppervised diet.but it was time to send i my appeal. I had 6mo of diet I had lost 20 gained 5 than lost 2 than gained 2 well I ended up with loseing about 15 but sent it in and I got approved today. so dont worrie to much about the loss. This is what they want to see how you lose and gain .I my self have tryed the meds I hate them they make my head fuzzy.I think you will be okay.If we coukd lose weight and keep it off we wouldnt be wanting G/B right.
Man this just makes me want to scream!
I feel for you. I think most insurance companies want to see if you can make a committment to change. And, I agree, if we could get it off why would we want or need the surgery.
Your PCP sounds like a drill seargant. I don't think, in my opinion you should be "forced" into taking a medication that you do not want to. I would seriously think about taking "diet pills" just to satisfy what he thinks will get you approved. Have you talked to anyone at your insurance company about this?
And, um, excuse me but isn't committing 6 months of your life to a supervised program serious enough? Your doctor should respect your wishes as to taking that medication. After all, it would be different if you had gone to him and asked for the diet pills.
Good luck with your endeavor. Do not be afraid to stand up and ask questions. You are paying for your insurance and your doctors services. And you deserve to get the service you want and pay for.

margaret--i am sorry to hear that you are delayed...but....your doc is right that you have to show you are serious about this--once you have your surgery --exercise- mobility-is crucial...in the first weeks to prevent dvt's and to keep your lungs functioning well- later to just get everything moving! bowels, circulation, etc....
i am replying w/out reading your profile--if you are physically unable to exercise -try water aeorbics-a few folks have wonderful results in the pool...
much of what we go thru pre-op is a test to see how emotionally and mentally ready we are for this life altering surgery...it IS NOT the easy way out--your commitment must be there--
i don't know anything about that medicine or it's side effects...sorry!
i hope that i do not offend you by my reply--it is meant to console but the words may seem harsh.....
i wish you well and pray for a speedy surgery date for you!
wow- i feel like a creep after reading the other two responses--i guess i would ask you--how long have you been going to this pcp?? and your comfort level with him/her? how much of your attempts at weight loss have been with this pcp?
i DO NOT agree with just taking meds to take them and i hope that i didn't come off that way...
ouch! can i bury my head now???guess i'm still practising tough love ....!
however--i do contend that we must make major changes in our food and etc choices to make this tool work...
i still send best wishes to you!
Thanks to everyone for responding. If I lose too much weight, I won't
qualify for the surgery. My BMI is 39.3. I do have sleep apnea, neuropathy, hyerlipedema, Perncious anemia, borderline hypertension. I was scheduled for surgery on Feb.12,2004.but my husband's insurance was changed without us knowing. Our new insurance, Cigna, wanted the six month supervised diet. I just don't know what to do. Will the insurance deny me if I do not lose more weight? And if I do lose more weight, I won't qualify for surgery? Thanks everyone for listening. Also, I did have a TIA three years ago, that is why I am afraid of taking the med. I hope I am making sense. Margo you didn't offend me. Margaret
