Dr. Curry, I had my consultation with my surgeon on Monday July 12th. I was advised that I need to quit smoking for the surgery and for life. I am prepared to do this. The Doctor also advised I have to stay away from second hand smoke for at least 8 weeks prior to surgery. My question is, If I am not at home and my husband smokes in a room how long does it take for the smoke to dissipate? We just don't want to take any chances after hearing the complications that smoking can cause. I am quitting cold turkey, my husband is also quitting but he has to cut back and do it gradually. My husband has been smoking for 33 years. I on the other hand have only been smoking for 15, and my WLS is enough to motivate me. I appriciate you taking the time to answer my question. Thanks Lisa Johnson

My non-scientific answer would be that after a about 15 minutes the smoke has probably settled enough that you wouldn't breathe a significant amount in. Dr. C The Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss Center Cincinnati, Ohio (513) 559-2545
