Columbus surgery
Hi I am here in Columbus. I am jsut starting as well. I have my counsultation on Monday July 12th with the surgeon. I checked out the Mt Carmel web site for the surgery. I did not like how you have to pring and fill out all the paper work fro the website. I am having my surgery with Dr Barbara at Barix Clinic with Dr barbara. I do know that when you click from the top of the page, to go local to ohio there is a link that will let you check our your surgeon. It will give you alot in information. Like how many surguries from people here who post, It is really cool. Are you going to start going to the support groups here in Columbus. I have not went to any yet. I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Sheila!
My name is Valerie, and I am an RN at Ohio State University. I also had my Lap RNY there as well. Please check into OSU's Bariatric Program. We have a wonderfully comprehensive program there. I should know I am living breathing proof! If you need some information you can call Shannon Surber at 293-7912 and she can help you get some information.
Good luck!

I am looking into Barix, Mt carmel and OSU. I really wanted to go to Barix, but Insurance will only cover 60% of allowable because Barix is out of pocket. So, I called the program at Mt Carmel. Cant get into a patient forum until September 8th. So, if you attend the patient forum and support group, I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences with them as well. I did call fort he information and have looked at the website.
As for OSU, I called and left my contact information on some answering machine. Never did get to talk to a real live person. Have heard from numerous folks that OSU was not such a good place to go - no real Bariatric Program in place and more like it was an after-thought. No equipment, no nursing geared towards the care of Bariatric needs, horrible response time for pain control, when the unit is short they call in nurses who dont have even the slightest med-surg skills and make them work there....
If you have more detail'ish information you could share, I would be interested to hearing more.
In addition, I also look at all the reviews posted here. Barix seems to win hands down.

I have heard that OSU doesn't have a real good follow-up. I feel this is going to be a MAJOR part of the surgery, is after the surgery the questions and answers that we will have. Have you tried to see if the Barix clinic would set up a payment plan for you? Yeah, it seems like alot of money, but can you really not afford to get the best? Just a thought.
I'm pre-op for lapband @ OSU (8/4) and have been very pleased with them, so far.
I found their pre-op program (4 weeks) helpful. The staff and dieticians have also been responsive, as well. I've attended 2 of their support groups and found them informative. My only issue is that almost everything is geared toward RNY. I would have liked a manual just for lapband.
I have also been pleased w/ Dr. Needleman and his staff.
I don't expect much in the way of nursing from ANY hospital. They always seem slow to respond.
Hi I am 10 weeks post op. Went through the OSU program and chose Dr. Bradley Needleman as my surgeon. He is the cheif of surgery for bariatrics. He has a wonderful "bed side" manner. Really impressed my Mother and Husband in the pre-op visit when he came in shook their hands, sat down and literally proped his feet up on the step to the table I was sitting on, leaned back and actively engaged us in about 45 minutes of Q and A. Never once did he look at the clock or give the impression he needed to hurry up. He has been wonderful post-op too. I was a lap RNY. I swear my incisions were healed before I left the hospital. Can't even see a single stitch. I swear they super glued me shut because it is flawless. If you are just starting out I would also recommend the 12 or 24 week nutrion wellness program. It teaches you about nutrion and I believe is the biggest part of my success now. I understand nutrion more than I ever have in my life. Well Good Luck!
