Hey all, I am switching insurance soon and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to who I should go through. My current insurance covers wls (but i have to wait atleast 8 monthes to even apply) and I am looking for a insurance company that will also pay for it. Thanks, Faith

Hi Faith, The best bet is if you don't have to change insurance don't. I changed from UHC to Anthem BC/BS and I have been having fits with them. My new insurance does pick up WLS but it has been a hassle every since. I too have to wait 8 months for an eval. with my PCP and then go through the surgeon and how many more months after that. It seems like a long time but in the end it will pay off. Just hang in there, during your months of waiting you can gather all your info for that big day. Just remember we will be here for you while you are waiting. Good Luck.

I have Anthem BC/BS too and I'm curious about this 8 month wait for an eval with your PCP. I've never heard of that. I know it is different w/ each employer...I have an automatic exclusion I'm trying to get overturned...several people at work have had the surgery, so I'm hopeful...but I've never heard about that 8 month thing...can you explain? Thanks! Sheila

Hi Sheila, Get a hold of your insurance and find out your guidelines. I have to do the 8 months, which is just and evaluation to watch my diet and weight. I have to try to loose weight on my own before being able to be considered for surgery. I have been on yo yo diets for years, and too it has to be written by my PCP that it is a medical nescessity. My husband works for General Motors in Mansfield, OH and it has been a bear to get our insurance to pick up alot of things. But we do have a clause that says that everything will be paid for after the surgery is done. Just in the meantime I have to pay out of pocket for everything in the process. Just don't give up hope and keep fighting, if I knew then what I know now about fighting insurance I would have started a long time ago to have the surgery done. As long as it is a medical necessity you shouldn't have any problems getting it approved. Good Luck and keep me posted. I'll keep you posted on anything that I find out on the way.
