Question?

This is for anyone who has had the surgery at Holzer in Gallipolis, OH. Has anyone had Dr. Canady for the surgery, and how was he and how was it? Do they do the Laparoscopic or do they only perform a certain type of operation there? Has anyone from Jackson County, Ohio had this operation done at Holzer? If so, give details. Thanks

I haven't dealt with Holzer but I do know just down the road a ways that kings daughter medical center is doing them. They are located in ashland,ky. They have 2 surgeons currently doing lap-band and lap-bypass. The 2 doctors are Tim Wheeler and Roderick Thompkins. The number to the surgical weight loss office is 606-327-5192.(deana milum and tonya janikowsi)) Two of the girls on the staff there have had the surgery and have great testimonials. I am a patient of dr.wheeler and am scheduled for laparscopic roux-en-y on july 6. good luck!!!

I grew up in SE Ohio and personally, I wouldn't take a sick cat to Holzer - but that's just my opinion (my son at the age of 14 was taken to Holzer with a small piece of wood in his eye that we couldn't get out - we left with a diagnosis of pink eye - we never filled the prescription and he was fine the next morning after the wood worked it's way out over night - that's just one of several issues of incompetence that we dealt with at Holzer). Do your research on both Dr. Canady and the facility very carefully as they haven't had much experience. They've only been doing the surgery for a little over a year I believe. Ask lots of questions about their complication/mortality rates both for him specifically and for the bariatric surgery at that facility in general. http://license.ohio.gov/lookup/default.asp You can use this site to search by last name to see if any docs have been in trouble in Ohio. He was granted a license with restrictions in WV in 1996 - probably from the action taken in Ohio. I'm not posting this to slam Dr. Canady personally - I think everybody should know how/where to look up their physicians/surgeons to see if there have been any major complaints or sanctions against them.
