Does anyone have this ins.? Did you have any problems and how long did it take to get approved? Sure would like to hear good news about it.My husbands ins. runs out in July and I've been trying to get approved since March.

I have BCBS PPO and I was approved within a month. But do remember, all BCBS policies have different guidelines. Goodluck, Amy

Amy, Thank you for answering my post. Did you have to have a 6 months doctor supervised diet to get approval? That is what they are asking me for and I don't have enogh time before the ins. runs out. It is so hard to keep my chin up sometimes but, I really want to have this surgery to feel better and I'm not giving up yet.

HELLO! It took aobut 3 weeks for me. But remember not all policy's are the same it depends on the employeer also if they want to cover it for the employee. Because they have to pick up a percentage ot the cost to have it covered. mine was covered 100% with a out of pocket of $100 plus the $250 to the doctor to get it started. be patient it will happen rynae

Rynae, Thanx for answering my post. I guess thet I will just have to keep trying. I'm asking you the same thing I asked Amy. Did you have to have a 6 months doctor supervised diet to get approval? It's the only thing stopping me from getting approval. Sherry

We were notified that as of Jan 1, 05 that BCBS will no longer cover WLS and that really makes me sad.

Sheila, Thanks for the info. That means I've got to get it in gear to get approved. I have been trying for 2 years(my husband has had 2 different ins.) I'm not giving up yet. Sherry

Hi Sherry! Unfortunantly, I can't give you a straight answer...contracts are different with each employer and it appears from your follow up posts that it does cover SWL but you need a failed 6 month non-surgical weight loss attempt probably supervised by a Physician.....if that's the case, then if you have tried any precriptions or tried any diets that your Doctor put you on, it could work. But.....If you don't have the 6 month weight loss attempt and your husband's insurance runs out in July....... , the only think I could suggest maybe a COBRA which you can have for 18 months after losing your insurance or maybe try Medicare or Medicaid.....I don't really know of your current situation......... Hope this helps!!! Cathy Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss Center 513.559.2545

In 2004, there was an exclusion in my policy. I tried for four months to get it over turned to no avail. My wife wrote the President of the company and the policy was changed for 2005. It took about month to get approved and I ha surgery on 4-13-04. Good Luck!
