I'm lookng for an Ohio Psychiatrist who accepts Medicaid

Hello Everyone: My name is Georgeann and I live in Columbus, Ohio. My insurance is Ohio Medicaid and I am having a difficult time finding a Psychiatrist to conduct my phych evaluation. Medicaid will not pay if I see a psychologist but will if I see a psychiatrist. I have been searching for two months with no success thus far. I know that there is a Psychiatrist who performs this service that accepts Medicaid. Does anyone out there know of anyone in Columbus. Thank you for your assistance. Georgeann

There is a place called "Have Faith Christian Counseling " in Columbus their # 614-361-5100, I don't know if they take Medicaid, but you can call and find out (if you haven't already) Also have you tried calling Medicaid to see if they have any suggestions for you? Since the State of Ohio does provide Behavioral Health services for people on assisitance. Good Luck

I posted this for someone else, but you can try these folks as well?? I had the same problem and I found two....Dr. Kenneth Beavers (459-3003) and Lisa McCarthy (888-7211) I chose Lisa because she was the first one I called. The office is in Worthington. They didn't have any appts. until July but they put me on the cancellation list and could call any day. Also they verified with Anthem that it would just be my $10 copay!! Good luck! Oh..I have Anthem Blue Preferred, not sure if that makes a difference, but at least you've got some names to work with now

Thank you everyone for the information. I will call these Doctors on Monday. I did call Medicaid and they do not have a provider list for consumers and I was told that there are to many Doctors to give me information over the telephone. I am going to try callng again to see if I can get a hold of a more helpful person. I will keep you updated and thanks again!

I also am on Medicaid and was looking for a Psych for an evaluation. I was told that drs. in private practice do not/can not take medicaid anymore. However most of the mental health clinics do take medicaid. I live in Marysville just north of columbus and I have an appointment here with Consolidated Care. I got my appointment scheduled for a week after I called. No waiting list. Medicaid is nothing like an insurance company. They seem to make it so you can't ask questions. You just jump through the hoops as they come to you with no reasonable answers as to how to jump. Good Luck in your search. Angela

Hi Angela: I told you that I would update you and others when I found a Psychiatrist in Columbus, OH who accepts Medicaid to do my psych evaluation. I found Dr. Richard Ashbrook 614- 291-7600 on 3rd St. Downtown Columbus. Because of the new regulations with Medicaid and Behavioral medical services, your Medicaid case worker has to send a referral to the Dr. office before you are accepted into the clinic. My appointment is pending reciept of the referral and I am praying my way through each process of my WLS journey. Angela thank you for your advise ... it really helped. Georgeann
