Self-employed .. no insurance .. help ?

I have been doing alot of research about financing .. and have alot of useful info, but I still feel like I am missing something ... So if anyone has ever gone through the surgery without ever even trying to get insurance to pay for it, I would love to hear of your outcome. I have no choice but to pay for it myself, and as a self-employed single-mom, I want to make sure that my monthly payments are reasonable, and the overall cost is reasonable. This is way out there, but I am a medical animator, and had the idea that it would be nice if I could trade my services for partial or all the financial cost. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could make this option work for me as well as the medical staff ? Meaghan Urbana, Ohio

Hi Meaghan, I don't have any ideas of how to barter with the medical staff, but I am paying for my gbs out of pocket. My new employer has an exclusion on any and all weight loss surgeries, so I used the finance company recommended by my surgeons office, and check out www.p-f-s.com which is patients financial solutions, they were very easy to deal with and did not try to make a killing off of the money I borrowed. I also used a credit card with a fairly low interest rate. I hope this helps you. good luck Terrie

Hi Terri - I appreciate your help .. I had allready heard of pfs .. and applied, but I just moved here from Canada last year and have no credit history .. so I wasn't approved. Being self-employed doesn't help either. Finding out quickly it's better to have bad credit than no credit history at all. Meaghan

Hey Guys, I have the same exclusion thing going, and although I have applied for assistance from VR, I imagine that some if not all of the funding will come out of my own pocket as well. I'm curious where you folks that are self-pay are having your surgery. I had my initial consult at Barix (BTC) in Columbus, but have recently been hearing that many places are less expensive. My package is $25,500 which basically covers everything. Is anyone local here using someone else that is much less exensive? I'd appreciate any info any one can give me. Thanks! La
