Can anyone that has had the Roun-Y Gastric Bypass surgery give me any suggestions on protein supplement drinks that gives the most protein and nutritional needs for post surgical patients. I am scheduled for open RY on the 25th of May. Are the liquid protein supplements that require only a few tablespoons better than the drinks? Also if they have found one more tasty than another? I have a bunch of suggestions from the surgical center but I am looking for suggestions from people who actually have had to drink the supplements. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had the surgery on April 19th and still on the protein supplements. Boost High Protein (Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry) blended with 1 scoop of Designer's Whey Protein (found in GNC and comes in flavors, I have vanailla and chocolate) and 1/2 banana. you can add vanilla, or other flavorings like coconut, orange, lemon or cinnamon. Using the Boost with the whey will give you 32.7 Gms of protein in one shake. So, two shakes a day will meet your protein needs. I like the Chocolate Boost with the scoop of vanilla whey, with banana and cinnimon blended smooth. It's like a Mexican chocolate shake. I'm also able to do cream soups that are strained. Cambell's Cream of Chicken with Mushroom is good. Prepare according to can directions using skim milk. Add two tablespoons of dry powdered milk for extra protein, heat and strain through a strainer. Another thing that I bought online at a suggestion from my nutritionist is a product called OptiSource. If you go on the Walgreen web site and type in ReSource, the products will come up. It is a high protein drink especially formulated for patients that have had bariatric surgery. They are 4 ozs each and have 12 Gms of protein per drink. You can order on-line and they will deliver next day. Only problem is that it only comes in strawberry and caramel. I have the strawberry. To really get a protein boost is to blend two OptiSources (24 Gms protein) with one scoop of Designer's Whey (17.5 Gms) with a couple ice cubes and you can get 41.5 Gms of protein in one shake. Hope this helps and good luck.

I use the Nectar protein supplements30g protein in 1.5 scoops. Has a fruit taste rather than chocolate and vanilla. Isopure chocoloate is another one I use. Look for ones that have Whey protein and not soy. Also beware adding the fruit it could be too high in carbs if you are following a low carb program. Also the natural sugars in fruit bother me so Nectar is a perfect choice for me. You can find it at several sites.
