Stress test?

Hi everyone! I saw my PCP Dr. Tsai yesterday and she seemed so positive that the surgery is gonna happen that I came away feeling pretty good. I really like Dr. Tsai. She has been very kind and caring. She did some pre op testing. She did blood work, an EKG and ordered a stress test. Does anyone know what all is involved in an Adenosine Myovrew (stress test)? I will have it on Friday. The ball is bouncing !

If I'm correct, the Adenosine is the type of stress test I had where they inject you with stuff that helps make your heart rate increase. I had to have the injection because of severe spinal and knee arthritis, I could not walk on the tread mill and they get an accurate test result. When they did mine in March, they hooked up the EKG leads and then put an iv in. The nurse told me this medication would "make my heart race" (it takes it up to so many beats but I can't remember how many). She told me that many people get nervous because it feels like your heart is going to jump out of your chest its pounding so hard. She also said some people feel faint or many get flushed in the face. I have to admit, it was a weird feeling but she told me to form a fist and flex my arm and that would help, and it did. After they did that, they sent me to x-ray to get films taken on a brand new machine to the hospital and the staff running it. It was a fiasco to say the least-I was off and on that machine I know 10 times and finally they sent me back to get more injection and told me to return about 2 hours later to complete the test. Other than the weird feeling of the heart pumping so hard and my back hurting from lying so long for the films to be taken, it was a piece of cake. Unfortunately, I had a failed stress test. It showed ischemia in one of the chambers and the cardiologist wanted me to have a heart cath. If this happens to you, let me know, I'll tell you all about it but I can tell you now that the stress and anxiety of knowing you have to have one is far worse than the actual heart cath procedure. Luckily for me, I had a false positive on the stress test and I was fine but I still had to go through the procedure just to find that out. Good luck to you! Beth

Thank you so much for the great information. Hope it goes right the first time. I have to be there tomorrow and fri to have this done and I am happy to be getting it done. Feel like the ball is still rolling if you know what I mean. I want the surgery tomorrow! Are you post op? Thanks again!

Hi! No, unfortunately, I'm not post op. I've not even submitted to the insurance company. I've got tons of folks dragging their feet and I'm getting pretty frustrated. I KNOW I will be denied but after speaking with my husband's human resources department and insurance company today, they all told me to submit, be denied and appeal. By appealing, you get a "broader" look at your records. My cardiologist and PCP both wrote letters on my behalf and the surgeon told me that within two years, he would not consider me a candidate. I normally don't ask for help but its to the point where my spinal arthritis, knee arthritis (need a knee replacement) and ankle arthritis, I can barely get around any longer which makes is even harder to lose. I wanted the surgery yesterday! Once I convinced myself I needed it and then I wanted it, I was ready to go for it! Beth

Thanks PJ and Kimberly for the recommendation. Its ironic you both say this because just yesterday when I spoke with my insurance company, I was told that MANY claims would more than likely be approved-not initially but when they are appealed and go "into review". They told me that the problem was the insurance departments of some of these surgeons won't submit them because we don't have the "inital" requirements when in fact, once it gets into review, they do take into consideration the entire packet sent in-doctor's notes, patient's letters any doctor's letters and recommendations. I told them that I was "battling" the insurance department wanting them to submit so I can get to that denial phase and they were not wanting to do it. My insurance company suggested if I didn't get them to do it, that I should go elsewhere-that I had the right to have them submit it. I don't mind driving that distance-that is not a problem. Groveport is a bit over an hour but our son and my husband both had to go to orthopedic surgeons down in Cincinnati. Our son had to go down there every other week for over 6 months and then once a month for a year until they finally did surgery and then it was every week for 3 months then once a month then every three months until they released him. I think I could drive that distance with my eyes closed!!! One question, do you have an initial consult or do you have to attend a seminar? I HATE the seminar approach-feel like its a cattle call. I dumped one surgeon locally because she wanted you to attend the seminar, then get insurance approval THEN she'd see you. Beth

Hi Beth, I went to the seminar but don't really know if it is required. I would guess it is because it gives you all of the information, facts and figures on the surgery. Very informative. We were invited to schedule a consult then and there. I did and had the consult within a week. He ordered a few tests (scope of my intestines and gallbladder test) and when they got the results they sent paperwork to ins. The tests (blood work, EKG, stress test)I just finished were ordered by my PCP. They are in prep for the surgery too. I believe I have all of the tests finished unless they come up with something else. I did not need a psych eval. (don't know how they determine that) And, now as far as I know I am just waiting for a date. And, believe me it can't come too soon. Now before any of this began I was online doing my research. Did that for about 2 months before and still am. Before that, I have known 5 people who have had this surgery. So I did have some knowledge of it. Write anytime! Good luck! PJ

You are not required to attend a seminar. If you wish to schedule an appointment with Dr. Curry, all you have to do is call our clinic at (513)559-2545. We would love to see you. Linda
