What if you are turned down?

Another question from me, the newbie. : ) Has anyone out there been denied the surgery and had to find an alternate way to lose the weight? What did you/they do? How difficult is it to get over the disappointment? I honestly feel that surgery is my last resort, but if I can't have it, what'll I do then? Thank you!

I was turned down by Aetna. They said I could do a 6 month doctor supervised diet OR a 3 month multidisciplinary regime (that means diet, counseling and exercise) and reapply. With support you'll get from members of this website, the disappointment will lessen. Consult with your surgeon's office about other options. Don't give up.

The answer to all your questions is DON"T GIVE UP! I was denied by MMOH and I appealed and was approved. I was very disappointed at first, but then I got mad. I pulled together over 18 pages of information from my doctor's letters to cost anaylsis(I have diabetes and they pay for my treatment) and then I made copies of several articals on WebMD - MMOH has a direct link for their members on their site to WebMD. I don't know what convinced them but they approved on appeal. The only thing I can tell you is that if you are like me and not a patient person it will be hard waiting - they like to run it to the end before they decide. My friends and all the people on OH were very supportative and that helped. If this is truely your last chance then you have to fight for your life, sounds drastic, but as with weightloss its a battle you have to win to lose! Good Luck!
