Has anyone with this insurance been told that they had to have a BMI of 40 or more for the last five years. I have my five year weight history, but now BMI of 40. It is 38.7

yes-- unless you have comorbidities????? with comorbs 35 is the number needed. i was diagnosed with sleep apnea so i was able to get approved--- my bmi for almost 10 years hovered around the 40 mark but in 1999 was under- so my apnea- while i hate it- was my "lifesaver" ..... a word of advice about mm--write down the name of the person you speak to each time you talk via phone, etc- also date and outcome of the call. keep all written correspondence from them.

Margo, I do have comorb. I have high blood pressure and mitral valve prolapse. My surgeon stated this in the letter that he wrote to MM and they still denied me. I now have an appt. to go for sleep apnea. I dont know what else they want me to do.

MMOH also requires a psych eval. Did your doc just send them a letter, or did you get copies of your medical records showing your weights? The medical records might help. They would also show the diagnosis of your co-morbidities. Good Luck.

I had very good luck with MMOH. But you must have everything in order. You have to have a psych evaluation. You need a five year weight history. You need proof of at least six months of medically supervised dieting. I got lap band approved in just two weeks. My surgeon knew precisely what to send and what to say in the letter.
