Hi everyone, I've been so depressed lately I can barely drag myself out of bed. I have to go on a 6 month physician supervised diet before my insurance will even consider covering this surgery. I keep telling myself it will be ok, but if you lose even 10 lbs they consider you successful and won't pay. Loosing the weight isn't all of the problem as you all know, keeping it off is the big struggle. Classes are over for me next Tuesday then I get a couple weeks off before I start summer school. Money is a problem right now too. Just a lot of crap going on. I guess I just need a hug! amy

OMG! What insurance is that?! How silly! Your BMI is not going to change into a less than morbid obese category with a 10 pound loss is it? If you are still morbidly obese, you may have successfully lost 10 ppounds, but not solved the problem. The six month supervised diet can be either successfull or not for the different companies....Did you get a real clear interpretation from the company? So sorry for all your troubles! Something has got to "give" somewhere! AD

I have Aetna and lost 10-15 pounds on my supervised diet and that didn't cause any problems. Now, if you had 120 pounds to lose and you lost 50 of it on your supervised diet, yes, that could be a problem because you would no longer be morbidly obese or have a BMI greater than 40. Regardless, if you insurance requires the diet, you don't have a choice. Use that time to change your eating habits in preparation for the post-op life. Stick to proteins, veggies, fruit and whole grains. You might lose weight, you might not, either way though you will be prepared for your life after surgery. Good Luck.

Amy what inssurance do you have cause some of the inssurance policey also have a second approach to get it done. I have Aetna and I'm going with the second bullentin policy report requirments. and Dr. Curry of Deaconess has been working with me to get approved. They are leading me in the right dirrection now after my six month attempt as failed. Also get involved with a WLS support group. I belong as a member to www.WLSbutterflynetwork.org and they been helpful hang in there I CARE DANIEL
