5 year weight history

Hi, I have QualChoice insurance...I have had testing, labs, psych eval and have submitted my 5 year weight history (office notes from PCP visits) to the review board. My history has a 2 year gap. I didn't see the doctor, I wasn't sick, and I attempted to lose weight on my own. At the time, the rules were different about PAP tests and mammograms, so I didn't have to see the OB/GYN then either. I didn't lose (and regain) enough weight in that time to be anything but morbidly obese. I am nervous. Has anyone been denied by QualChoice for having this gap in the history?

Hello Alice, I was also worried about getting approved through Qualchoice. I had no weight history records at all.....NONE. I just started seeing a doctor last summer. Other than being morbidly obese, I was never sick, so I never went to the doctors. I did have about 12 "dated" photos of myself over the last 10 years and my surgeons office had me write down every single diet I have tried over the years and approx. how much weight I have lost and I also had to write my own letter to the insurance company explaining why I didn't have a 5 year weigh history. I have hypertension (under control), hypothyroidism (under control) and slight edema in my right leg....other than that I have no other medical problems. My paperwork was sent to Qualchoice on a Monday and I had been approved by Wednesday.........I was totally shocked.........approved in less than 2 days. I was told that Qualchoice is pretty easy to work with. Just gather as much info as you can and you should be fine. Good luck and take care, Roger Open RNY 4/22/04

Thanks, Roger! I will be thinking of you on 4-22! I haven't thought about pictures. They have dates on them....I know I have more pictures of when I was thinner. I hate having my picture taken, especially when I am obese. I did musical theater in one of those gap years. I'll have to check the theater photo archives. I have heard a lot of things about QualChoice. Most of it good.....AD

I have qualchoice also. I only had two year history. No health problems and I'm only 24 and I was approved. My info was sent in on Thursday and I was approved on Monday. I would also suggest going to University Hospitals. The staff is great and I think that university and qualchoice are "friend"

Hi Joy, I am going to University Hospital, I have an appointment with Peter Hallowell May 3. I had to change surgeons and hospitals. My original surgeon can't afford his malpractice insurance and had to close his practice in Akron. I was informed of this while I was waiting for my psych eval appointment. The Akron surgeon's office has submitted all my records and tests to the QualChoice review board and the psychologist sent my psych eval to the review board and to my new surgeon. I suppose I could be approved by the insurance before I actually see Dr. Hallowell. I heard QualChoice owns University Hospital, they should be real good friends. AD

That's my surgeon, Dr. Hallowell. He's really nice and straightforward about things but not in a demeaning or harsh manner. I told him that I still smoked on the weekends and just plainly said. You need to stop. He's also made feel at ease about it all. Most doctors make me feel nervous but he didn't. He's good so far....my feelings might change once i'm Post-op but for now he's great!
