Anthem BCBS

Can anyone tell me how their approval/denial process went with this insurance? I live in Chicago and have Anthem BCBS. They say that my request for approval will be reviewed in Ohio. I guess because it's a national account. I would like to know from the time the surgeon/doctor office submits for approval how long it takes. Also if someone could tell me EXACTLY what is required of them for approval. I went on Meridia back in June of 2003...it didn't work. I was on it for about 6 months and only lost a few pounds. Of course I have gained it all plus much more back. I started going to the Wellness Institute (the program for wls pre-op candidates) in January of this year and saw the surgeon a week or so ago on March 10th. They said they would submit everything to Anthem, but they didn't tell me much else.I am 5'3" and weigh 260. Is this enough "Medical supervison" as far as documentation goes? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

Try the insurer link on the main page - they list responses people have had regarding insurance approval. Do you have any comorbidities? Medical need is some times what they look for. I have different insurance but had to have a sleep study and a psych exam first before I could send in my paperwork. Hope some of this helps. GOOD LUCK!

Hello I have Anthem BC/BS I had open RNY 10/27/03. In retro spect I did not wait long. Although at the time it seemed like forever. It was probably just 3-4 weeks until I got my answer. The requirements were PCP referal, Psych eval, Nutrition consult and I think thats it. I also needed cardiac clearance because of chest pain in the past. hello it took just 21 days for approval. make sure you get all your doctor appt. as soon as you can. the one thing i had to wait on was my pcp to get a referal, i had to light a fire under his ***! but other than that, bc/bs was great. carol
