Wondering if I should wait with WLS

I am new to this webside but I have been researching WLS for the past year and I am well aware that I could die during or after the surgery. I just finished reading the memorial pages (maybe reading them was a mistake in the first place) and now I am scared to death of the surgery. I did some of the tests already (x-rays, counselor, blood and sleep clinic) to get ready for the surgery, unfortunately we had to move (husband is in the military) and some of the tests will expire, now after reading the memorials I am wondering if I should wait with the WLS. One side of my brain still says go ahead with your plans and have the surgery and the other half says wait with the surgery, go back to weigh****chers again and try to loose the weight this way. I am not sure it would help this time around, but right now I feel like I am in a panic mode, I would love to get more control over my eating habbits and loose the weight, but at the same time I am very worried about commplications. Thanks for listening! Sandy

I can't tell you what to do, but I don't regret having the surgery. I don't know if you have called anyone locally, but the Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss at St. Elizabeth's is where I went. They are great. I had my surgery on Nov. 11 and have lost 53 lbs. already. I feel great, and know that I would have had to go to Weigh****chers for a year to lose 53 lbs. Stay off the memorial pages. Keep in mind that the risk from being morbidly obese is greater than the risk from the surgery.

I wonder the same thing at times. I also have 3 small children to worry about leaving mother less but at the same time I feel I may be dong them a great service if I pull through and can have a more active life with them and be healthier than I am now. Look at it like this if you walk across the street you take the risk of getting hit by a car it happens everyday in america. driving a car you take the risk of getting killed in an accendent it happens everyday in america. Taking risks is an everyday part of life but because you have done the same things for years you don't think about the risks and you don't think about the fact that you put your self at risk everyday. It just seems differant because up until now you have had no trouble (to say) and you feel in side that you are putting your self in the way of trouble on purpose and for some reason surgery conpared to driving a car every day seems a little more your fault if something was to happen. That is how I feel but I have faith in God and the doctor and I know that both will do what they can to keep me here for my kids incase soemthing does happen. We take risks everyday 100 times over if this will make your life easier and happier I say go for it.
