WORRY
FAMILY IS WORRING OVER ME HAVING SURG. MY DAUGHTER AND FRIEND HAVE KNOWN AND GIVING ME SUPPORT BUT I DIDNT TELL MY
SISTERS UNTIL YESTERDAY, NOW I!M GETTING KNOW SUPPORT FROM THEM, THEY JUST KEEP TELLING ME TO CHANGE MY MIND, THEY CLAIM TO BE WORRIED OVER SURG. I REALLY WANT THERE SUPPORT. I AM IN IT FOR THE HAUL. I KNOW WE ALL GET A LITTLE SCARED. JUST THINK I HAVE JUST 8 MORE DAYS. YAHOO,,,,

The family dynamics that you are experiencing are pretty normal. Most people get very concerned about ANY elective surgery when there is a chance of complications. That's natural.
It took a long time to get to this decision and you made that decision for very valid reasons. Most of us had comorbities that would have had a greater impact on our lives than any potential complications from WLS. Remember that over 90% of us have no complications. Less than 10% of us have some complications, but they are medically treatable and not a life threat.
With WLS, the odds are in our favor. With proper post-op treatment, we will get better. If we don't have the WLS, then our future is well defined as well. Unfortunately, that isn't a positive picture.
Once you explained this to your family, they'll understand. However, they too will also be anxious. Nobody wants anything negative to happen to a loved one. The good news is that this anxiety goes away once the procedure happens.
The other normal behavior is for you to wonder if you made the right decision the first week or so after the procedure. This is normal too, so don't let it get you depressed. It will pass after a week or so once you are able to get around and feel better. Also, when you get on the scale and see 20lbs gone for the first time, that's a good morale booster.
One last thing I would recommend. Take plenty of pictures and measure your neck, chest, waist, arms, and thighs. You will see inches reduce faster than pounds coming off. Sometimes your weight will plateau, but you'll still lose inches. This is even a better morale booster, since other people can see the inches coming off, but they can't judge the pounds coming off.

At first I didn't tell my parents,But a short time after i dicided to get the surgery I told them and I am glad I did that gave them almost 8 month to find out more about it.When my parents were able to know about(by Studing)My dad took me to my every appointment and surgery.They knew it was my last hope.You just have a few more days to confinve them to see this web site.
Hang in there! I didn't tell my mom exactly what I had done until after surgery (she's 85 years old and a class A1 worrier!). I didn't tell my sister until about 2 days before surgery. By then it was way to late to turn back, my mind was made up and nothing was going to change it. Your sisters are probably worried about you making it through surgery - face it, every one seems to have heard a "horror story" or two about WLS. Are your sisters overwieght? If so, the change you are about to undergo may be frightening to them. (Actually coming to terms with being morbidly obese in stead of just "fat" isn't easy!)

MY MOM IS 86 I!M NOT TELLING HER EITHER SHE WOULD JUST HAVE A FIT. I HAVE 6 SISTERS WHO OUR OVER WEIGHT, BUT TWO SUPPORT ME ON THE SURGERY, BUT ALSO WORRIED. THATS THE WAY IT GOES. I HAVE 11 SISTERS, I LOST ONE DEC.18TH. OF THIS YEAR. I HAVE SURGERY 1-12
THE TIME SEEMS TO BE FLYING BY. MY HUSBAND, DAUGHTER AND BEST FRIEND OUR MY SUPPORT TEAM. GOD WILLING I WILL SOON BE ON THE LOSING SIDE FOR GOOD, AND NOT CARRYING EXCESS BAGGAGE AROUND.

Fortunatly for me, my entire family lives in Kansas. I've told my father, but at his age I don't think he entirely understands. My sister-in-law has been giving me a bad time about it, spewing out all the negatives, etc., my brother could probably care less what I do, so basically except for my partner, I have no family support.
