I've been waiting close to a year now for approval and my final surgery date. Well the best possible Christmas gift this year was finding out I have a pre-op date Jan 7th. Only problem is all the above - my nerves have really been on edge to the point I'm snapping at everyone, I'm scared and excited at the same time. I know several people (my sister included) who have had the surgery. Some have had a rough way to go and others went smooth as silk. Is this crazy emotional roller coaster I seem to be on normal? I guess I'm listening to too much negative feedback from people I know who keep telling me about friends of friends who have died having the surgery. But right now I am not about to back down because of negativity, but it sure doesn't help the old nerves any either. Please I need some POSITIVE feedback. Love to all Janis

Janis, First of all, congratulations on your surgery date. It is very normal to have mixed emotions at this time. You planned to have this surgery for a long time. Don't let anything deter you now. Try your best to surround yourself with supportive people, and turn a deaf ear to those who would only serve to spread gloom and doom. You are embarking on a brand new year and a brand new you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Ginny

Don't pay attention to the negativity. You work your program. I find the more positive you are the faster you heal. Nervousness and edginess are a part of the normal process. Hang on and Enjoy the ride. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. Soon you will be on the Lighter Side of Life. May you have a safe surgery and a quick recovery. Best wishes Jack.

Hi, Sweetie! You are so normal it's scary! This is elective surgery and so many people are really ignorant about it , it's not funny - but they are more than happy to share unfounded, untrue stories with you. I am not really sure of the reason for doing that sort of thing, but it sure is annoying when you have already made up you mind to go through with surgery. Most important - keep a positive attitude and things will go much smoother for you. Your reactions show that you are normal and understand there is some risk associated with surgery, but that you feel the risk of surgery is less than the risk of remaining morbidly obese. (You get a little snappish, because you know the risks are there, in the back of your mind, and you don't need the reminders!) Normal, normal, normal! Best of everything on your upcoming new birthday, Sue
