Can someone help. I am 6"6" and wiegh 500 pounds. I have trouble breathing, moving or doing anything. Have lost 18 pounds in past 3 months. I am on Medicaid and trying to find a doctor who will do my surgery for gastric bypass. Have tried several areas and am getting run around. I can't go on like this. My bones, feet and knees are killing me and I can't get a job. People look at my swize and not my qualifications. I live in the Coshocton Ohio area and am willing to go anywhere to have this done. Can anyone out there help or give me some information regarding how to get a doctor to help me. Desperate in Ohio...

I wish I knew for sure where in Ohio they accept Medicaid. Why not look on the Bariatric Hospital portion of this web site (a link is just to the left of these postings) and contact Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland. I believe they take patients on Medicaid but I don't know if that extends to gastric bypass surgery. Then I would start by emailing all the hospitals that have email addresses on their sites and just be blunt! Your health depends on it! And I am sure your wife and daughter would love to keep you around. Good luck and post back to let everyone one know how things are going. Mary Beth

Here is a link to an Ohio members profile who had the surgery through Medicaid. You can read his profile and at some point he tells exactly what he did in order to get approved. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=C1027098931 Good Luck.

Joel I've been through the same exact cir****tances so I understand well what it's like to seach and keep coming up empty handed. There are 2 sources I know of that do accept Medicaid, one is in Columbus a branch of OSU Bariatric Center. Not sure what the specs are with them but it's once source. The other is Dr. Sonja Lichtenstein in Portsmouth Ohio. I've been to her seminar, been through the psych evaluation and nutrition education classes, and had the approval from Medicaid on my first try. I go in for pre-op Jan 7 and can say I'm thrilled! If you need a phone number or more information about Dr. Lichtenstein please feel free to send an email to me at [email protected]. Wishing you much luck! Janis
