Anybody with Med. Mutual ever have a DS?

My insurance company won't tell me if they pay for a DS. I gave them the code and they said they cannot give me that information. The surgeon's office says she thinks you have to have a BMI of 50 or over to get them to pay. I AM REALLY WEARY OF THIS INSURANCE BAG THING!

Hello Kathy, I have Medical Mutual Super Med Plus. They paid for my surgery. I didn't have a problem with them at all. I had to have 5 yrs. of PCP history, A psyilogical evaluation done. I don't know about the DS. Many insurances do not cover it. I know Medical Mutual will cover RNY (they were my secondary insurance). Your surgeons office should be able to tell you if they have had any luck with getting them to pay for DS. I know Aetna spells it out in their policy exactly what procedures they cover - perhaps Med Mut does the same. You should have a copy of their handbook which spells out everything that is excluded. If you don't - request one. Also, I know there are some DS support sites where others who have had the surgery may be able to better help you. Good Luck.
