I do not have BCBS. I have United Healthcare but I'm a federal employee. I was told that as a federal employee that you can't be turned down for this surgery. They paid all of mine. Cheryl

I too am a Federal Employee and I have Aetna and they were the pits. Maybe your insurance company won't deny federal employees but mine did....4 times until I caught them on a technicality and then they approved. Good Luck!! Jules

I have Federal BC/BS basic option and got approved the first try. I dont believe that you get approved just because you are a federal employee though! We federal employees don't have that much pull! The requirements are BMI of 40 or higher and preexisting medical conditions. I had a BMI of 41 and my preexisting conditions are arthritis and lower back pain. I had surgery on 11-05-03 at UC in Cincinnati. I only have paid $200 total for copays ($100 per day) and $30 for Dr visits. I expected to get a hard time from them but got none! And the insurance was billed over $23,000 but it was negotiated to a bit under $9000.....amazing how the hospital can write that much off isn't it?? Melinda
