Hello everyone in Ohio- I am waiting on approval for surgery at St. Vincents with doctor Ben-Meir and I forgot to ask about this drain I've heard about. Can anyone tell me what it's for and where they put it. Also will I have a tube in my nose? I know this will be the least of my worries but I would like to prepair myself . Also if anyone else has had Ben Meir can you tell me how you liked the facilities and him as a surgeon. Thanks to anyone *****sponds. Take care. Kim

Don't know about your surgeon. My first one I did have a a tube in my nose. I was down when they put it in so it I did not feel it. I didn't have a drain but it's purpose to help fluid go away from the body. In my second surgery I had neither one of those. I also did not have a catheter (Thank God). The drain is in the stomach. I invite you to check out our site at www.wlsbutterflynetwork.org and post your question there also.

I don't know what a drain is but I can tell you a friend of mine had surgery 5 weeks ago and had Dr. Ben Meir and she loved him he was very nice and the hospital was great the whole 5th floor is set up for this surgery and the nurses are all trained and only do this surgery it is a full team of people who specailize in this. I have to tell you my friend was the last person that I would have ever thought that would have this surgery done and for her to have it then she must have researched it and the Doctor that she wanted or she would not have done it. I am looking in the new year to hae it also and I am going to go to Dr. Ben Meir I have heard nothing but good things about him and the Hospital. I have to wait because our insurance may change in Jan. 04 so I don't want to get approved or be in the middle of it when it changes. Good luck and I haven't heard of a drain. I know 4 people who have had surgery and none of them talked aobut a drain. Rynae

First let me tell you I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Ben-Meir on December 15. (The date was my choice, I could have it sooner.) You know I sat at a pre-surgery meeting at St. Vincent's a few weeks ago and they talked about the drain and darn if I can remember what they said! I do know that having lap you only have a drain while in the hospital and if you have open you may have to leave the drain in longer. Your best bet is to go to one of the Pre-surgery meetings, they have them once a month. Have they giving you a registration to get onto their website? If you have already been in for a consultation and paid your registration, and have not received your login information, then go to St. Vincent's web page; http://www.svch.net/bariatric/ and contact/email one of the nurses or Melissa. Once on the board you will be able to ask some of the actually hospital patients. Also, you will find that everyone who had surgery with Dr. Ben-Meir speaks highly of him. You can also learn more about the facility and get more questions answered at the pre-surgery meeting. I realize this is pretty far for you to travel so you may want to check on some of the groups that meet out your way. I know there is at least one in Avon and I think there might be one even closer to you. Gool Luck! Mary Beth
