I need help with a problem

On August 22, I had a consultation with Dr.Ben-Meir At St. Vincent Hospital in Cleveland. He wants me to consult with a neurologist due to an a mini stroke I had two years ago. He wants to know how long I can be off Plavix and baby asprin before surgery. Has this happen to anyone else? Was anyone on any blood thinners. All help would be greatly appreciated. I am really feeling somewhat depressed. Thanks

Although I am unable to give you medical advise, I can tell you from experience that no surgeon will operate on a patient while on blood thinners. I had knee replacement surgery in Feb. 2002 and had to stay away from all blood thinning medications for at least a month before surgery. I am scheduled to have my surgery with Dr. Ben-Meir in December. He told me to stay away from aspirin and any anti-inflammatory medications. He said tylenol was my friend. He really has your best interest at heart. Your blood will not clot properly if you are taking these medications. Your best bet is to talk to your neurologist and get his opinion and ok for this surgery. Good luck. Mary Beth
