If you have Mecical Mutual of Ohio you might want to call them. I have found out that as of JULY 1 2003, in SOME policies they are only covering up to $10,000 for bariatric surgerys. I'm one of the 'lucky' ones I still have full coverage as long as it's medical necessary, 5 year weight history, and phys exam. I need September 12 to get here soon. That's the fastest I could get into the info session for Dr. Maguire.

Good thing I had mine done in April!! They paid almost $40,000. I only had to pay $1500 because I used a doctor not in our network. I never had a bit of trouble getting approved. They approved it within 2 weeks of the dr's office sending the info. Jessi

Well, I am one of the unlucky ones, I guess. My approval from Med Mutual came May 5, 2003 and the surgeon's office just "didn't get around to scheduling my consult" until July 11 even though I called and called. I had everything in order months ago....and now, the same office called and told me they'd received a lertter from Med Mutual informing them I have only lifetime coverage for $10,000 for this type of surgery...and as far as I am concerned, Med Mutual has signed my death warrant. I am 50 and walk like I am 75. There is no joy in life and afte researching this for years, being turned away by BTC two years ago because I had had a mole removed which was basal cell (5 years cancer free only, they said!), the door has been slammed in my face for good. There is no justice. I don't have $32,000. I have no credit rating thanks to my ex-husband, and I own nothing I can sell or borrow against. I feel now I am just counting the days as I watch my diabetes ravage my system, my joints disintegrate, and cringe as my co-workers,who think fat is equal to pig status, laugh at me and just think I am not disciplined enough to stop chewing. Frankly, I now wish I had never heard of this surgery, this site, and hadn't been foolish enough to dream. I am in grief. Good luck to all.....may your journeys be bump-free; may you live long lives. I envy your ability to live, but you all certainly deserve that chance. Maryalice
