New to the Boards

I've been reading the boards and learning a lot.  I'm still in the research stage and looking at either Riverside (Fresh Start?) and Mount Carmel West program in Columbus.  I am signing up for the informational seminars in September. 

Can anyone give me their impressions of either of these programs?

Hi BellesMom and welcome to the OH board.  I live in the Columbus area too.  However, I went to Dayton to Dr. Maguire for my surgery.  I was scheduled for RNY but canceled it once I started to learn more about the Duodenal Switch (DS) surgery.  Unfortuntately, no doctors in Columbus do the DS.

I liked going to Dr. Maguire because he performs the DS, RNY and lapband.  I felt like going to a surgeon who does them all allowed me an unbiased opinion of the best surgery for me.  If you go to a surgeon who only does the RNY, he/she will say you should get the RNY. 

I can't stress enough how important it is for you to do lot's of research on all of your options before you make a decision.  If it turns out that RNY or lapband or VSG seems to be the best choice, I hope you have great success with it.  But please consult with a surgeon who does them all so you can get a balanced view of your options.
